The desire to paint is an integral part of who I am, and a significant factor in how I express myself. I produce abstract and non-objective paintings on canvas and paper. Inspiration for my work comes from a multitude of patterns, textures, colours, and details found in nature and in man-made objects. Such things as ancient and modern stone surfaces inspire my work. They provide interesting compositions, textures, and colour. They are silent elements present in the places where we live our lives and where history is made.
Recorded in photos, I select an image that has a story and resonates with me - then the journey of creating a painting begins. I sketch a composition and use it as a roadmap. From this point on the painting is subject to my interpretation through acrylic paint and mediums. Standing at an easel I allow my intuition to take over. I use bold colour, rich textures, and incorporate movement.
I invite my viewer to enjoy the interpretation I present and to share the story of its creation.
My process as a painter starts with selecting an image that resonates with me, sketching a likeness of the composition, then creating my interpretation of it through paint.
